COLUMBUS — An Ohio school says a student died in the Pacific Ocean off Costa Rica and two others were pulled out to sea by an undertow current while on a school mission trip.
Patriot Preparatory Academy in Columbus said in a statement that the other two students have not been found.
The trip was organized by Ohio-based Impulse International Mission Trips. On its website, the group identified the dead girl as Caity Jones and the missing boys as James Smith and Kai Lamar.
The school said they were among eight members of the junior and senior classes who were to return home from their service trip on Thursday. The news release said grief counselors are at the school.
The academy said in a statement: “We are a family and when one hurts we all hurt.”
