COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich isn’t tickled by the pinkish color of Ohio’s newer driver licenses.
The governor said as an aside during a speech in Dayton on Tuesday that he will eliminate what he called “the pink driver’s license.” The Columbus Dispatch reported his comment drew laughter.
Afterward, Kasich told reporters his remark was “sort of tongue in cheek,” though he indicated there have been complaints about the color and that his administration is wondering if there’s something better. He says he recently got his new license and went: “Whoa.”
The state started phasing in the salmon color in 2009 to help improve the security of licenses. Joe Andrews of the Department of Public Safety said it’s a tough color to reproduce on a phony license.
