MEDINA TWP. — A Medina woman died Wednesday morning following a one-vehicle accident on Fenn Road.
Just after 6 a.m. in the 3000 block of Fenn, Sara Russell, 44, drifted off the left side of the road into a grassy field where she struck a tree head-on, according to Sgt. Todd Zieja of the township Police Department.
According to witnesses, Zieja said, Russell was slumped over the steering wheel before traveling off the roadway.
Russell’s Toyota Camry traveled about 100 yards in the grass before hitting the tree. She was transported to Medina Hospital.
“Ms. Russell was breathing but unconscious upon arriving at the scene and she remained that way throughout the whole ordeal,” Zieja said. “Unfortunately, nobody was able to revive her. It’s my understanding that she went into cardiac arrest once at Medina Hospital.”
Police Chief David Arbogast and Zieja said an emergency helicopter was en route to pick up Russell, but she died at the hospital.
“We are not sure if Ms. Russell died due to injuries sustained from the accident or if there were other circumstances that became fatal,” Arbogast said. “The accident is under investigation and at this time there is no real indication of why she veered off the roadway.”
Arbogast added there “most likely” will be an autopsy.
