Junior golf: Medina County sweeps aside competition

LaGRANGE — It was a clean sweep by Medina County girls in the 10th event on the Southwest Junior Golf Tour, held at Grey Hawk Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.

Lauren McKinzie, Rachel Horvath and Madison Butler swept the three female age groups to highlight a strong day for area participants in the local junior league that has six events left on the schedule before the Founders Cup Championship at Medina Country Club on July 25.

McKinzie fired a 3-over-par 75 to take the 16-18 age division by five shots, while Horvath shared medalist honors with Westlake’s Cara Kelley in 13-15 as both carded an 80. Kaitlin Neumann of Liverpool Township finished third behind McKinzie after a round of 81.

Butler won the 10-12 bracket with a 56 over Liverpool Township’s Annika Neumann (69).

On the boys side, Brunswick resident Justin Roth chipped in a 5-over 77 to take the 14-15 age group by two strokes. Fellow Blue Devil Nick Schley placed sixth with an 82.

Liverpool Township’s Tyler Bogus took third at 16-18 with a 79, while Hinckley Township’s Chad Dubiel was fifth overall in the 12-13 age group.
