COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich says Ohio is working to create a state insurance market, or exchange, under the federal health care law.

The law signed last year requires exchanges to open in 2014 as places for individuals and small businesses to turn if they need health coverage. States that fail to set up their own exchange may have the federal government do it for them.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Kasich said following an event in Dayton on Monday that he doesn’t want “a bunch of people in Washington who can’t seem to get out of their way come in here and try to run Ohio.”

Kasich said the state has received some federal money to plan for building an exchange and will soon apply for more funding.
