New pair will lead Medina County Board of Elections office
MEDINA TWP. — The Medina County Board of Elections will have a pair of new leaders beginning in August.
Montville Township resident Carol Gurney was picked by county Democrats and will serve as director starting Monday after Director Jan Pilat officially steps down this weekend. The membership of the GOP Board of Elections recently tapped Carol Lawler, of Brunswick, to replace deputy director Sue Strasser, who retired at the end of May after 25 years in the position.
Some duties of BOE directors and deputies include verifying of voter registration in the county, overseeing candidate petitions for elections, ensuring the valid questions appear on election ballots, managing polling locations and election volunteers and auditing campaign finance accounts.
The county board of elections will also help oversee redistricting in Medina County from the region’s Congressional districts down to municipalities and townships, Gurney said.
