4-H youths build model train display at fair
MEDINA — County 4-H participants are not all involved with farm animals and agriculture; some take interest in the railway or model trains.

Thirty-two boys and girls makeup this year’s Medina County 4-H Model Train Club, and there are 10 adult advisors to the youths, according to John Lanzer, a train club advisor. The 4-H train club has a 48-foot, 12-feet wide model on display in Building 12 at the Medina County Fair.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Lanzer, who noted 13 years ago the club initially consisted of four advisors and maybe 10 kids. “If you need a hobby, this is probably the greatest one to work with.”
Youths in the train club get 2 feet of track to work with in setting up the annual fair model, which took approximately five 5 ½ hours to put together, Lanzer said. Kids can decorate their display area however they choose.
