Medina freshman Samantha Borelli has big night in gymnastics

BROADVIEW HTS. — Medina freshman Samantha Borrelli finished fifth in the all-around Wednesday as the Bees finished second in a six-team meet held at Gymnastics World.

Medina’s team score of 134.125 was second to host Brecksville’s “A” team (147.175). North Royalton (131.175) was third, followed by Chagrin Falls Kenston (118.55) and Brecksville’s “B” team (112.75).

Borelli scored a 35.625 in the all-around to finish behind four gymnasts from state team champion Brecksville. Medina junior Megan Kerrigan (33.525) was eighth, one spot ahead of sophomore teammate McKenna Baluch (33.015).

In individual events, Borrelli placed fourth in the vault (9.1), fourth on the parallel bars (8.9), fifth on the floor exercise (9.075), and sixth on the beam (8.55).

Baluch added a sixth on bars (8.55), while Kerrigan tied for seventh on the balance beam (8.475).

The host Bees took the top three spots in every event.

WESTFIELD TWP. — The Maddie Brandt and Ashley Rose show was outstanding as Cloverleaf remained perfect on the season. Brandt won the vault with an 8.9, took the bars with an 8.5 and claimed the all-around with a 35.4. Rose took first on the beam with a 9.3 and captured floor with a 9.45. Rose also had seconds on the vault (8.35), uneven bars (8.0) and all-around (35.4). Brandt was second on the beam (8.7) on floor (9.3). Cloverleaf improves to 5-0, while Wooster fell to 2-1 and Olmsted Falls dipped to 0-2.
