Wrestling: The Bees still have a shot at crown

CUYAHOGA FALLS — Matt Hogue was the hero and Medina wrestling coach Chad Gilmore picked up his 99th career dual meet victory in a dramatic come-from-behind 34-27 win over Cuyahoga Falls on Thursday.
The Bees (5-4, 3-2) kept their Northeast Ohio Conference River Division title hopes alive with the win.

Trailing by 21, Medina rattled off six straight wins to clinch the victory when Hogue pinned Keegan Eastman at 132 pounds. While the Black Tigers and Bees split the matches down the middle at seven, Medina scored more bonus points.

Joining Hogue in the win column for Medina were Jeff Geiger (106), Ryan Hornack (113), Zach Getto (120), JJ Koenig (126), Justin Hamer (145) and James Duke (285).

Highland 73, Cloverleaf 6

After dropping its first two Suburban League duals, Highland closed out conference play with its fifth consecutive win as the Hornets finished tied for second place with Nordonia. Winning for Highland (7-2, 5-2) were Marko Vilimonovic (106 pounds), Amanda Kosik (113), Frank Ravanelli (120), Zac Balski (126), James Kunzler (132), Domenic Ravanelli (138), Thomas Gabyak (145), Colin Rininger (152), Lazar Vilimonovic (160), Adam Kluk (170), Nick Corvo (180), Zach Blessing (195) and Joe Crowder (285). Kyle Jenkin (220) was the lone winner for the Colts (0-7, 0-7).

Wadsworth 63, Nordonia 7

WADSWORTH — The Grizzlies (10-4, 7-0) are halfway home to winning their 20th consecutive league crown after stomping the Knights in this SL tilt. Winning by pin for Wadsworth were Jordan Schleigh (113), Kagan Squire (132), Chris Baughman (145), Cody Gordon (152), Brett Spinelli (220) and Nick Tavanello (285).

Brookside 57, Buckeye 16Buckeye 40, Lutheran West 36

SHEFFIELD — The Bucks (7-5, 6-4) gave up a combined 10 forfeits — five in each match — but still found a way to beat Lutheran West. Winning both matches for Buckeye were Jake Thayer (170) and Tyler Carrow (220). Reigning Gazette Wrestler of the Week Alex Sherman (160) did not compete in the Patriot Athletic Conference triangular.
