Trooper Harley Steppenbacker, of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Medina post, said the driver a 2008 Ford pickup truck failed to yield when traveling north on Station Road at its intersection with state Route 303 and collided with a 2008 Chevy Aveo, which was heading east on Route 303. The accident occurred about 7:45 a.m.
The driver of the pickup, 35-year-old Alvaro L. Cabrera, of Dublin, Ohio, was transported to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center with a hip injury, the trooper said. However, a hospital spokeswoman did not have a record of Cabrera being treated there.
A passenger in the truck, David Medina, 29, also of Dublin, was treated and released from Southwest General Health Center in Brunswick, Steppenbacker said. The Aveo driver, 43-year-old James G. Sottile, of Wellington, was also treated and released from Southwest.
Steppenbacker noted Cabrera would be cited with failure to yield at an intersection and driving without a license. Cabrera’s truck came to rest in a field about 110 feet northeast of the point of impact, while the car ended up in a ditch a few feet from the intersection.
Besides the Patrol, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and rescuers from Valley City and Brunswick Hills Township responded to the accident.
