College notes: Lindsay Tenyak, Taylor Woods help the Eagles soar

While it’s not the Red and White jerseys they wore as prep standouts at Wadsworth, Lindsay Tenyak and Taylor Woods seem to like wearing Purple and Gold now.

The backcourt tandem has not only taken the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by storm, but has helped turn Ashland University women’s basketball team into one of the best in the nation.

Lindsay Tenyak

The Eagles, who are ranked No. 5 in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Poll, extended their school-record win streak to 22 with a 66-56 victory over No. 25 Ferris State. The victory clinched the GLIAC South Division crown for the Eagles.

Coming into the week, Tenyak and Woods were among the top players in the league.

Tenyak, a starting guard, was the league’s leader in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), along with being one of the top long-range shooters in the GLIAC in 3-point percentage (5th, .427) and attempts per game (2.0/41). Woods, who is one of Ashland’s top guards off the bench in her rookie campaign, is also one of the conference’s best shooter from beyond the arc, canning 22-of-47 to pace GLIAC shooters in percentage (.268).

Another former Grizzly, freshman forward Robyn Rotterschmidt, has appeared in eight games for the Eagles.
