The jobless rate in Medina County rose one-tenth of a percent last month.
Unemployment in February was 7.3 percent, which is up slightly from the January rate of 7.2 percent, according to data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. December’s jobless rate was 5.9 percent in the county.
“We’re still seeing a bit of a seasonal spike of unemployment after the seasonal holiday layoffs,” said Susan Kukucka, administrative assistant for the director of the Medina County Workforce Development Center. “Hopefully, we’ll see some work pick up soon.”
The unemployment rate in Medina County for February 2011 was 7.9 percent, according to state data.
The county’s jobless rate remains lower than many neighboring counties. Unemployment in Lorain and Stark counties was 8.7 percent in February; Portage County came in at 8.3 percent, Summit County, 8.2 percent; Cuyahoga County, 8 percent, and Wayne County, 7.6 percent.
