Brunswick woman jailed after alleged stabbing, assault

BRUNSWICK — A Brunswick woman is in the Medina County Jail after allegedly stabbing her live-in boyfriend and assaulting another woman at a party last week.

Detective Brian Schmitt said Brittany Rodgers, 20, of 441 Laurel Road, Apt. 202, was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and is being held in the jail on $500,000 bond.

Further charges are pending a grand jury indictment, he said.

At 4:45 a.m. June 14, Rodgers allegedly had a disagreement with her 23-year-old boyfriend and a 19-year-old woman at a party in her apartment.

Schmitt said she punched her boyfriend and then the other woman, who escaped to her upstairs apartment with a bloody nose.

Rodgers then allegedly followed the female victim upstairs, broke into the woman’s apartment and continued to assault her.

Other attendees of the party reportedly pulled Rodgers off the woman, Schmitt said.

When Rodgers returned to her own apartment, she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the leg with a martial arts knife and beat him with a baseball bat.

The man was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights and was released after a few days, Schmitt said.

The female victim was not immediately taken to a hospital, he said, but after a few hours complained of her injuries and also was transported to Southwest and later released.

Rodgers was arrested at the scene, processed at the Brunswick Police Department and booked into the county jail.

“There are future charges coming after the prosecutors review the case and it goes to the Medina County grand jury,” he said.

A grand jury is scheduled to meet next week.
