Rollover accident in Spencer Township kills man

SPENCER TWP. — A 22-year-old North Ridgeville man was killed in a rollover crash Thursday night on West Smith Road, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Julian A. Bailey was driving west on West Smith Road about a half-mile east of Root Road when he attempted to pass another vehicle and ran off the left side of the road, according to a patrol report. Bailey’s 2003 Ford Taurus overturned and then struck a utility pole at 11:26 p.m.

Bailey was taken in a Chatham Township Fire Department ambulance to Medina Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was the lone occupant in the vehicle, the report said.

Bailey’s 20-year-old sister, Victoria, described her brother as “a big-hearted sweetheart.”

She said he had been out to eat with a friend who was in a second vehicle.

The crash apparently occurred when her brother tried to pass a pickup driven by a man with a girl in the car, she said. After the crash, the driver of the pickup stayed to offer any help he could, she said.

She said her brother was home-schooled along with his five siblings and enjoyed playing paintball with his friends.

She said her brother worked for Ohio Junk Force, which picks up and recycles items or takes them to the landfill.

Liston Funeral Home will handle arrangements, she said.

Bailey was wearing a seat belt, the report said, and the crash remains under investigation.
