The son of John R. and Dimple Leah (Lane) Legg, John was a graduate of Clay County (West Virginia) High School and served in the Merchant Marine as a 3rd Mate aboard the William G. Mather. He later labored 18 years as a bricklayer working out of Local #5 of the Bricklayers Union, Cleveland. Most recently, he farmed his Green Township property where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville and served as a member of the Building and Grounds Committee of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Alyce J. (Harkema) Legg, whom he married August 9, 1975; two sons, Jason (Kim) Legg of rural Loudonville, and John R. Legg of Akron; two daughters, Krista (Dr. Richard Pitt) Legg of Stow, and Caryn (Darren) Reisinger of Grafton; 12 grandchildren, Dani, Jared, Travis, Asabella, Alexandrea, Jackson, Morgan, Payton, Mallory, Kendal, Carter and R.J.; his mother, Dimple L. Legg of Clay County, West Virginia; his mother-in-law, Ruth Harkema of Cleveland; three brothers, Roger Legg, Lynn (Stephanie) Legg, and Graden Legg, all of Clay County; and two sisters, Trish (Bill) Tyo of Gassaway, West Virginia, and Rachel (Jerry) Massey of Pinch, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father, John R. Legg; and his father-in-law, Peter Harkema.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 11 A.M., in Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville, with Rev. Scott Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Legg Family Cemetery, Green Township. Friends may call Tuesday, August 21, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.
