Robert Russell Dexter, 79, of West Salem, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 at Medina Village Retirement Community. He was born April 14, 1933 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to Talbot Bogert and Alice J. (Anderson) Dexter I and was a graduate of Ft. Lauderdale High School.
In 1950, he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and began his 26 year military career with them retiring in 1976. During his career he received many awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross with six Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 16 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the Air Force Medal.
Following his military career, he started in 1978 to work for the Medina City Water Dept. as an operations technician and retired in 2007.
Surviving are his five children, Debra (Jack Reed) Dexter of LaPorte, Indiana, Terese (Joe) Tellini of Dallas, Texas, Talbot B. Dexter II of Balch Springs, Texas, Robert B. (Letty) Dexter of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Russell B. (Annmarie Lopez) Dexter of Fr. Lauderdale, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Amber, Lisa, Cheryl, Jeannmarie, Angela, Laura, Joseph, Vincent, Chelsea and Jarod; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maryann Crawford of Homerville, Lillian Thomas of Clinton, Ohio, Linda Fraunfelter of Auburn, California; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, Carol A. Dexter.
Funeral service will be Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1 P.M. at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. Rev. Dr. Tim Morrison of Spencer will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Homerville. Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2012 from 7 to 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
