Velma “Sue” M. Williams, 87, of Medina, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012. She was born January 26, 1925, in Granger, to the late Jack and Florence (Cooke) Pursley.
She spent most of her early years on the family farm on Granger Road that now includes Lake Medina. During the war years, she worked for A.I. Root. She married Chuck Williams August 10, 1945. They were married for 67 years. They had two children, Dave Williams of Medina, and Pam Payn of Seville. She loved her grandchildren, Shannon (Ryan) Smith of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kelly (Matt) Steiner of Fishers, Indiana, Jeremy (Cynthia) Payn of Wadsworth, and Heather (Brian) Rohm of Cincinnati; plus her five great-grandchildren, Walker, Charlie, Lia, Sean and Autumn. Her family was her pride and joy. She spent much of her time making life better for those around her. Sue’s favorite hobbies were golf, which she finished first several years in her league, as well as riding her four wheeler, playing ping pong, walking her 18 acres, and sled riding with all of her grandchildren. Sue was selected as 1st runner up for Mother of the Year by the Medina Gazette. To her family and loved ones she was Mother of the Year every year.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mabel Collins, Thelma Ream; and brothers, Gilbert Pursley, Ivan Pursley;
She is survived by her sister, Arlene Ganyard; and brother, Everett Pursley.
Sue was a gentle loving soul and always put family first. The family feels blessed that we now have our special angel still watching over all of us. She is also survived by her longtime friend and breakfast buddy, Rachel Overcash.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Medina County, and Bridges Home Health Care; they especially would like to thank her caregiver, Stacie, who provided so much love and support to Sue and her family.
Service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012, 1 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Pastor Donald Trigg will officiate. Burial will be at Poe Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday, November 9, 2012, from 4 until 8 P.M., at the funeral home.
