18-year-old inmate hangs himself in Medina County Jail cell

MEDINA — A teenage inmate hanged himself Wednesday evening in a cell at the Medina County Jail, according to a sheriff’s office official.

Michale Elliot Green

Michale Elliot Green, 18, of Akron, was found by deputies at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday in his jail cell after hanging himself using a bath towel, said Lt. Dean Lesak, administrator of the county jail. He was pronounced dead at Medina Hospital at 9:39 p.m.

Green was facing one felony count of aggravated robbery and five felony kidnapping charges, Lesak said. All charges involved a firearm and were first-degree felonies that carry a maximum of 10 year in prison if found guilty.

Lesak said Green was involved in a March robbery at the Lodi Outlet Mall. A firearm was brandished but not fired during the incident, according to court records.

After a police investigation, he was arrested Oct. 10, Lesak said.

The lieutenant said Green’s suicide was the first at the jail “in a few years.”

Green had a trial date set for Dec. 3 in Medina County Common Pleas Court.
