Ex-fiscal officer in Ohio town admits to $137,000 theft
COLUMBUS — A former fiscal officer in a central Ohio community has admitted stealing $137,000 in public funds.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, Franklin County prosecutors have said Rebecca Christian pleaded guilty Tuesday to tampering with records and theft in office.
Investigators said Christian falsified six years of fiscal reports while employed by Clinton Township. The guilty pleas came after an investigation by township police and the Ohio auditor’s special-investigations unit.
A defense attorney declined to discuss Christian’s reasons for taking the money.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 1. Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said he will seek restitution.
