Shepherd’s Grace joins megachurch

GRANGER TWP. — A local church is getting a renovation and a new name as part of a merger with Grace Church of greater Akron.

Shepherd’s Grace Church, 2325 Medina Road, will become the Medina East campus of Grace Church, a megachurch with 4,000 worshippers at its two Summit County branches in Norton and Bath Township.

“A person familiar or unfamiliar with church can feel comfortable at Grace Church,” East campus Lead Pastor Tony Livigni said.

The first services at the Medina East campus will be 9 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Livigni said Shepherd’s Grace was struggling with finances when the two churches decided to merge.

As part of Grace Church, the East campus will receive a renovation that should be completed next year, Livigni said. Until then, the congregation will meet in part of the church that already is renovated.

When the remodeling is finished, church services will move to an auditorium.

The building will require extensive renovation because it formerly was a plastics molding factory, Livigni said.

The building isn’t the only thing changing.

“The congregation has changed quite a bit, too,” Livigni said.

Some people are carrying over from Shepherd’s Grace, but others are moving from Grace Church’s other branches.

Livigni said anyone is welcome to join the congregation.

“As we’re opening this church on Sunday, I don’t want anyone to think they’re not invited,” Livigni said.

He said the church fully intends to be involved in the community, which also may encourage people to join.

Livigni said the church has a lively and light atmosphere, but the congregation and pastors take the Bible very seriously.

“We try to take the message of the Bible and make it understandable,” he said. “It’s the perfect place for anyone who’s investigating the message of Jesus Christ.”
