Boys basketball: Early deficit too much for Pirates

DOYLESTOWN — The Black River boys basketball team got behind big early and never recovered Tuesday in an 86-41 non-league loss to Chippewa.

The Pirates (0-2) trailed 31-5 after the first quarter, 50-17 at the half and 71-26 after three periods.

The balanced Chipps (2-0) received double-digit scoring totals from Bailey Breitenstine
(16 points), Brian Benedict (14), Billy Reeves (12) and Robby Downs (11).

Jerod England had five points and a career-high nine rebounds for Black River, while point guard Zach Sword and post Tyler Potter tied for team honors with nine points.

Allan Benson had nine points as the Black River junior varsity lost 58-31.
