SULLIVAN TWP. — Three champions and a pair of runners-up helped Black River take fourth Saturday at the 39th Annual J.B. Firestone Invitational.
Sebastian Vidika, Spencer White and Ryan Slone earned the top spot on the podium to pace the Pirates to 118½ points in the event held at the Black River Education Center.
Western Reserve (194) won the team title.
The lightweight duo of Vidika and White got things going with victories at 106 and 113 pounds, respectively. Vidika pinned Jacob Downs of Wellington in just 28 seconds, while White notched a gritty 7-6 win over North Ridgeville’s Evan Collier.
The 220-pound Slone made quick work of Western Reserve’s Brandon Workman in his title bout, pinning him in 1:27.
Mike Hozan, a two-time state placer, fell short in his bid to win the 120 championship, falling 10-7 to North Ridgeville’s Drew Dickson.
Jake Maund finished runner-up at 182 after getting blanked 5-0 by K.C. Hale of New London.
