Phyllis E. “Cookie” Lightner

Phyllis E. “Cookie” Lightner (Workman), 71, of New Concord, Ohio, passed away, Sunday evening, January 6, 2013 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Ohio. She was born June 20, 1941 in Cadiz, Ohio, to William A. and Nellie I. (Dudley) Workman. She had lived in the Wadsworth area for most of her life before moving to New Concord in 2003.

She married Albert B. Lightner. He previously passed away.

She worked for the Ohio Match Co., and well as a home health aide in the Wadsworth area for many years. She then worked with the Cambridge Home Health Agency where she retired after many years of service.

She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in New Concord; was Employee of the Year through the health agency; former member of both Wadsworth Eagles and Moose Club’s; enjoyed dancing and the outdoors including gardening; mostly enjoyed spending time with her loving family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Christine (John) Bricker of Wooster, Sherrie-Eby (Paul) Saling of New Concord, Ohio and David Sherrill and fiancee (Lorie Case)of Wooster; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Fred T. (Jean) Workman of Creston, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers “Shorty” and “Dutch” Workman.

Service will be Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 1 P.M. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster. A private family interment will take place at a later time at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
