Donald F. Brophy, Jr.

Donald F. Brophy, Jr., 63, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013. He was born in Flint, Michigan, on August 24, 1949 to Donald F. Brophy, Sr. and Joyce (Mathews) Brophy.

He grew up in Lodi, where he attended Cloverleaf High School. Don joined the U.S. Navy on January 4, 1967 and served as crew chief on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger during the Vietnam War. He earned the Navy Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, and Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars.

He was employed by Bowling Green Beverage and was a former resident of Toledo.

Don is survived by his son, Jerry of Livermore, California; sisters, Judy Johns of Elyria, Carol (Ray) O’Brien of Seville, Wendy Mitchell of West Salem and Natalie (Fred) Jacobi of Tuttle, Oklahoma; he is also survived by his step-father, Jack Thomas of Lodi.

His parents preceded him in death.

No public services will be held. Private burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the funeral home to help defray final expenses.
