Medina Rec center to build your resolve with open house

MEDINA — The Medina Community Recreation Center is encouraging people to start the year off in a healthy way Sunday with its annual open house.

The rec center, 855 Weymouth Road, will celebrate its 10-year-anniversary with its “New Year, New You” open-house program.

Dr. Michael F. Roizen

Program manager Nita Justice said the event is “a great opportunity” for visitors to check out the rec center to see what it has to offer.

The 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event will include free access to the center for Medina County residents who bring a nonperishable food item and a photo ID.

All food donations collected at the event, which is being sponsored by Medina Hospital, will go to Feeding Medina County.

The day will include guided tours of the facility, free health screenings, use of fitness equipment and pool, health information, giveaways and raffle prizes.

One of the raffle items, offered by Medina Hospital, will be four front-row tickets to see a presentation by Dr. Michael Roizen on Jan. 30 at the Medina Performing Arts Center.

Roizen is the Cleveland Clinic’s chief wellness officer and best-selling author of the “RealAge” series of books on health.

There will be a video showcasing the rec center’s 10-year history and gift bags for 10-year patrons. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided by Aldi’s.

The rec center also is starting a wellness kiosk, sponsored by Medina Hospital, that will allow visitors to set health, exercise and nutrition goals, get workout tips, network, and participate in health challenges and workshops.
