MEDINA — Property owners in Medina County have until Feb. 15 to pay the first half of their 2012 real estate taxes. The bills were mailed just more than a week ago.
County Treasurer John Burke said Tuesday his office will be open an extra hour — until 6 p.m. — through Feb. 15 to assist taxpayers who might have questions about their bills.
The treasurer’s office is in Room 109 of the Medina County Administration Building, 144 N. Broadway St.
Burke said the treasurer’s website, www.medinacountytreasurer.com, now allows property owners to pay their bills online using a credit card, PayPal or e-check debit transfer.
Using a credit card, however, will incur a 2.25 percent processing fee that goes to the credit card company and a 30-cent transaction fee.
The e-check costs $1.50 per transaction.
“We’re trying to make the process as easy as possible for people by adding the online option,” Burke said.
Tax payments are required to be at the treasurer’s office no later than Feb. 15 or postmarked that day to avoid a penalty, Burke said.
