George R. Hammon, 86, of Medina, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 into the heavenly gates on his 61st Wedding Anniversary, with his beloved wife, Grace at his side. George was born in Valley City on February 8, 1926 to the late George and Bertha Hammon. He had been a lifelong resident of Medina County.
George was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Valley City. He was a retired truck driver of 33 years. George was a U.S Navy Veteran of WWII. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and having conversions with friends and family.
George is survived by his wife, Grace; son, Terry (Karen) Hammon of Medina; and daughter, Nancy Cronick (Scott Sellers) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Kelly (Bryan) Wiles of New London, Aaron Hammon of Medina, and Amy Hamilton; great grandchildren, Jakob and Rabecah Hamilton; Jake and Evan Wiles.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Myron Hammon.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers of Samaritan Care Center, Medina, and Hospice of Medina County, for the wonderful care given to George.
Calling hours are Sunday, January, 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Rd., Valley City, and Monday, January 28, 2013 from 10 A.M. until the 11 A.M. funeral service at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 6656 Center Rd., Valley City. Rev. Bert Ambrose, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Valley City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH 44256, or to the church.
