Carol J. Wilcox of Medina, passed away at Summa Akron City Hospital, Saturday, January 26, 2013, following a long and courageous battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. She was born May 14, 1932 in Hackensack, New Jersey, to Walter H. and Betty S. Jillson.
Carol was truly a devoted, caring Christian woman, and was loved deeply by family, friends and all who knew her! Carol and husband, John C. Wilcox Jr., were married for 59 years. Following her husband’s work assignments, they lived from coast to coast, including twice in Medina, interrupted by 24 years in Walnut Creek, California.
Carol received her Associate Degree in Journalism from Centenary College for Women, Hackettstown, New Jersey, and was instrumental in founding The Medina County Writer’s Club, during the 1970s. In California, she returned to college, this time receiving a Librarian Associate Degree from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California. She then became Assistant Librarian at Northgate High School, Walnut Creek.
Surviving her are her husband, John; sons, Geoffrey (Karen) of Fairfield, California, Peter (Brenda) of Orange, California, John C. III (Lori) of Sharon Center, and Andrew C. (Laura) of Napa, California; brother, Donald W. (Christal) Jillson of Hackensack, New Jersey; sister, Kathryn M. Jillson of New York City; nieces, nephews and other in-laws and many dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
In accordance with her wishes, Carol will be cremated. There will be no visitation. The family invites friends for a Celebration of her “Wonderful Life” at 11 A.M., March 9, 2013, at The United Church of Christ Congregational, located on the Square of Medina in Medina.
