Larry Duane Schmid, 66, of Costa Mesa, California, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Sea Cliff Hospice in Huntington Beach, California, with loved ones by his side. He was born in Ashland, to Duane D. Schmid and Dorothy Rose Campbell Schmid.
He grew up in the Wooster area and later resided in Medina, graduating from Medina High School in 1964. Larry attended Kent State University and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country in Viet Nam. Larry moved to California in the early 70s and had resided in several cities in the southern part of the state. He was a talented finish carpenter.
Larry is survived by his devoted daughter, Kelly Schmid; and granddaughter, Kaylie, both of San Diego; brother, Roger (Beverly) of Lodi; half brother, David (Annabella) of Mexico City; stepmother, Emily Schmid of Medina; Kelly’s mother, Danielle Schmid of Huntington Beach; nephews, Scott, Ben (Jeayna), and Joe Schmid; and aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and was handled by the Omega Society in Orange, California. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
