New Medina County chief deputy clerk named

MEDINA — Medina County Clerk of Courts David Wadsworth has named Albert Shirer as the new chief deputy clerk.

Shirer was the Medina Municipal Court clerk for 10 years and served 12 years as court administrator for the probate and juvenile courts in Medina and Wayne counties.

Most recently, Shirer, who is a lawyer, was a project manager for American Cadastre LLC, a computer software house specializing in computerization of courts.

Wadsworth promised to upgrade the computer software in the court system during his election campaign last fall.

“Al brings a substantial record of experience and education to this position and we are looking forward to working together to provide a high level of service to the public, the courts and the bar,” Wadsworth said in a Monday news release.

Shirer replaces former deputy clerk Julie Kauffman, who was fired Friday. Kauffman served as chief deputy for 10 years — eight under Wadsworth’s predecessor, Kathy Fortney.

Wadsworth was appointed to the clerk of courts position in January 2011 after Fortney retired in late 2010.

He was elected to a full term on Nov. 6.
