Leadership Medina County loses leader of 15 years

MEDINA — Lucy Sondles is stepping down as executive director of Leadership Medina County after 15 years at the helm of the nonprofit.

Sondles announced she will resign, effective in July, and will take a part-time position to develop new programs for different segments of the county.

“I’m excited for the new director; this is the best job in the county,” Sondles said.

Leadership Medina County is a nonprofit, civic education and leadership development organization whose mission is to educate, connect and involve current and future leaders in Medina’s communities.

During her 15 years as executive director of Leadership Medina County, Sondles has worked with more than 550 individuals who graduated from the leadership program.

Among her accomplishments, Sondles said she especially was proud of her role in starting the Junior Leadership Medina County program 10 years ago.

Sondles said those who have been a part of the program have gone on to serve the county well.

“I’m very proud that our LMC alumni have brought the county closer together,” Sondles said. “There’s more interaction and conversation across the county because of LMC and it grows with each new class.”

The board of trustees plans to begin the process to choose Sondles’ successor within the next few weeks.

“This should allow us plenty of time to have a new executive director in place by July,” LMC board president George Wiswesser said.

Applications for the next LMC class will be accepted March through April 30.
