Medina County commissioners OK water, sewer rate hikes

Medina County water and sanitary sewer rates are rising.

County commissioners approved increasing the county water rate, effective Feb. 1, from $5.95 to $6.30 per 1,000 gallons. The sewer bill will rise 50 cents — from $29.25 per month to $29.75 per month — starting March 1 for most customers, according to County Administrator Chris Jakab.

Jakab said the cost for customers in Sharon Township who are attached to the Wadsworth sewer system will increase from $29.50 to $30 a month.

Commissioners agreed to the rate increases at their Jan. 28 regular meeting, Jakab said.

County Sanitary Engineer Jim Troike has said the increases are because of water rate hikes billed to the county via the Avon Lake Water Department, which supplies the county.
