MEDINA — County homeowners have exactly one week to pay their first-half property taxes — and this year they can pay them online.
The county treasurer’s office mailed tax bills for 2012 on Jan. 15. The due date is Feb. 15.
If payments fail to come in by the Feb. 15 deadline, county Treasurer John Burke said there will be a 10 percent penalty.
Payments may be made at the treasurer’s office on the first floor of the Medina County Administration Building, 144 N. Broadway St. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will be open until 6 p.m. Feb. 15.
Burke said there are more options to pay tax bills this year, though, and they’re all at www.medinacountytreasurer.com.
Taxpayers can pay using electronic check, PayPal, credit card and monthly debit, Burke said.
Monthly tax payments automatically will come from a bank account on the 15th of each month. He said there is no charge for making monthly payments.
“Many taxpayers find it difficult to pay their property tax bill when it comes due twice a year,” Burke said. “Thousands of senior citizens and young families on tight budgets have found our monthly prepay program to be extremely helpful.”
The monthly debit option is an extension of a coupon program the office offered. Burke said the coupon program still will be offered.
“Some taxpayers still prefer to use the mail-in coupon prepay program because of its flexibility,” he said.
