MEDINA — Catholics celebrated the start of the season of Lent at traditional Ash Wednesday services at St. Francis Xavier Church.
At a morning mass for students, the Rev. John Sungwoong Lee reminded everyone that the season of Lent is about more than just sacrifice for the 40 days leading up to Easter.
Catholics around the world observe Lent with fasting, prayer and sacrifice.
A flurry of hands went up when Lee asked how many students in attendance already had picked an activity or food to give up during Lent.
Lee said it was just as important to make time for prayer and reflection during the season.
“The problem is, after Lent, you go and play a lot of video games and you eat a lot of chocolate,” he said.
