Girls basketball: Grizzlies perfect in SL again

BATH TWP. — Another year, another perfect season in the Suburban League.

The Wadsworth girls basketball team won its 47 consecutive SL game Wednesday with a convincing 61-28 decision over Revere.

Reigning Gazette MVP Rachel Goddard led the Grizzlies (20-2, 14-0) with game highs of 13 points and four assists, while senior classmates Taylore Robinson (11) and McKenzie O’Brien (10) also hit double digits in the scoring column.

The Wadsworth defense was also on top of its game. Minutemen center Caitlin Vari entered play averaging 28.7 points over the past three games, but was held to 11 on Wednesday.

Revere, which lost the first meeting 55-47, fell to 13-9, 8-6.

GRANGER TWP. — Behind 14 points from AnnMarie Kirchner and 10 from Anna Rose Wiencek, the Hornets (14-8, 8-6) pulled away from the Indians (7-15, 2-12) with a 10-point advantage in the fourth quarter of this SL game. Seniors Jessica Peterlin and Martha Szekely added eight points apiece for Highland, which can clinch back-to-back 15-win seasons with a win over Akron Ellet on Monday at the Medina Division I Sectional.

Tallmadge 52, Cloverleaf 50

WESTFIELD TWP. — Emily Civittolo’s game-high 16 points and Kendall Yuhas’ 10 points and 10 boards weren’t enough as the Colts (8-14, 3-11) couldn’t overcome the Blue Devils (16-6, 9-5) in this SL affair. Lauren Gokey added eight points and five assists for Cloverleaf.
