MEDINA — Misdemeanor criminal charges have been filed against a 59-year-old Parma gun dealer who shot and wounded his partner while handling a semiautomatic pistol at a gun show last month at the Community Center on the Medina County Fairgrounds.

Harry G. Magocky, 59, of Parma, is charged with negligent assault and discharging a firearm in city limits, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

The negligent assault charge carries a maximum punishment of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Medina police Lt. Bob Starcher said Magocky didn’t know there was a round in the 9 mm Taurus semiautomatic handgun, which he had purchased at the Jan. 19 gun show. The weapon went off about 3 p.m. and the bullet hit his partner, Robert Rousseau, 63, of Lorain, in the arm and leg.

“The victim was released pretty quickly from the hospital,” Starcher said. “It wasn’t life-threatening.”

After the shooting, Jim Conrad, the Lodi promoter of the gun show, said he puts on nine gun shows, and this was the first time a firearm had been discharged in 35 years.

He called the incident “a terrible one, but an accident between two friends nonetheless.”
