Medina’s Kyle Hutchinson first in pole vault

GENEVA — Six Medina County competitors and one relay team placed in the top 8 of their respective events Friday night at the SPIRE Scholastic Indoor Meet.

Led by a first-place finish from Medina’s Kyle Hutchinson in the pole vault, five others fine-tuned their times before this weekend’s OATCCC Indoor State Championships at the University of Akron.

Just a week after clearing his personal best, Hutchinson cleared 14 feet, 7 inches to set a new standard. Teammate, Robert Sprung was fifth
(12-6).

Wadsworth’s Michalla Gordon and Sara Berger each took third in their respective events. Gordon clocked 10.13 to cross the line third in the 60 hurdles, while Berger took the bronze in the 800 in 2:28.05.

Berger also helped the 4×800-meter relay, which included Maddie Salem, Moira Priest and Rachel Cossick, to fourth in 10:14.53.

The Grizzlies’ Jessica White placed seventh in the pole vault (8-6), while Taylor Fuller took eighth in the 60 dash (8.25).
