Waiters out at least a week; surgery possible

INDEPENDENCE — The news was not good regarding the injured left knee of Cavaliers shooting guard Dion Waiters.
The team announced late Tuesday afternoon that the rookie will miss at least a week and probably longer due to a small, loose cartilage fragment that might require arthroscopic surgery.

Chardon shooter gets three life sentences, mocks families

CHARDON — Wearing a T-shirt with “killer” scrawled across it, a teenager cursed and gestured obscenely as he was given three life sentences Tuesday for shooting to death three students in an Ohio high school cafeteria.

Boys basketball: Geschke, Wheeler top players in county

COLUMBUS — The top two players in Medina County earned accolades when the Division I and II All-Ohio boys basketball teams were released Monday by the Associated Press.

County engineer against raising maximum truck weight

MEDINA — Medina County Engineer Mike Salay is against a proposal to increase the maximum weight of tractor-trailers on state highways by more than 21 percent.

One arrest made at drunken driving checkpoint

WADSWORTH — Police and Ohio Highway Patrol troopers went looking for drunken drivers Saturday.

The good news is they didn’t find many.

Only one driver was arrested at an OVI checkpoint Saturday conducted 9 p.m. to midnight at 151 Main St.
