YORK TWP. — The Erhart/York Township Fire Department was awarded an $81,938 federal grant this week to be used to buy equipment.
Township Trustee Colene Conley said Fire Chief Ken Barrett plans to use the money to purchase breathing apparatus for the volunteer squad.
“It’s really exciting to be able to upgrade our equipment,” Conley said.
The Fire Department has more than 30 members and its member associations regularly host fundraisers to help support the department.
Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon, announced the grant, awarded through U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
“These funds ensure that firefighters in Medina have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely,” he said in a statement.
