LIVERPOOL TWP. — The state fire marshal was called in Thursday to investigate a fire that destroyed a Boston Road family’s home while they were on vacation.

Valley City Fire Chief Jack Petrone said Thursday no one has been able to contact the homeowners, Barry and Robyn Watson, because they are on vacation.

The house at 5862 Boston Road was declared a total loss, with $250,000 in damages, he said.

“(The fire) completely consumed the house,” Petrone said.

A passerby called the Strongsville Fire Department around 3:50 a.m. to report the fire, and the call was transferred to the Valley City Fire Department, which had jurisdiction. Fire departments from Eaton and Columbia townships in Lorain County also responded, Petrone said.

Firefighters controlled the fire in an hour but remained at the scene until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, he said.

Petrone said investigators determined the fire started in the middle of the house, either on the first floor or the basement.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, a spokesman for the state fire marshal said.
