Cirque du Relay among fundraisers for American Cancer Society

BRUNSWICK — Local fundraisers for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life are gearing up for the June event with a circus theme.

Brunswick Relay for Life will host Cirque du Relay, with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. June 7 at Brunswick High School.

Publicity chairwoman Susan Schultz said the event will feature a dunk tank, circus-themed games, facepainting, Italian sausage sandwiches, popcorn and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

“Team members will be dressed as clowns, circus animals, sideshow characters and anything else these creative teams come up with,” she said.

She said captains from the 23 enrolled teams met Tuesday and are busy planning fundraisers.

Schultz said it’s not too late for teams to sign up for the relay, and they’re also accepting donations and luminary purchases on the Web.

The most moving part of the Relay for Life ceremony, she said, is the luminary walk. For a $10 donation to the American Cancer Society, people can sponsor a luminary to honor, remember or support someone they know battling cancer.
