Tennis club hosts fundraiser for Special Olympics team

SHARON TWP. — The Paramount Tennis Club hosts “Serve-a-Thon” on Sunday to raise funds for the Special Olympics of Medina County tennis team.

Ashley Lengel, 17, a Highland High School senior and a coach for the team, said this is the second year she’s organized the event.

“It’s a blast,” she said. “I really recommend everyone coming.”

The fundraiser will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the club, 5041 Paramount Blvd., and will raise money for the tennis team’s equipment, uniforms and transportation.

Last year, the event raised about $2,100, Lengel said.

About 40 local high school athletes from boys and girls teams will collect a certain amount of money from their sponsors for each serve they make during the event.

Eight Special Olympics athletes will participate as well.

The event is free to attend and tickets for various raffles cost $1 each.
