Medina resident dies in early morning crash on I-77

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS — A Montville Township woman was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 77 when a truck crossed the median and hit her vehicle Tuesday.

Gail L. Bradley, 57, was northbound on I-77 between state Route 82 and Wallings Road about 8:30 a.m. when a southbound piano- moving truck went through a guardrail and slammed into oncoming traffic.

A Broadview Heights police dispatcher said five vehicles were involved in the crash and six rescue squads were called to the scene.

In addition to Bradley, the driver of the truck, David Starr, 33, of Barberton, also was killed. Both victims were identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A passenger in the truck survived. At least four others were injured and a Metro Life Flight helicopter was called in.

A police officer at the scene said the truck may have been involved in a crash in the southbound lanes before crossing the median.

Debris from the crash forced the closing of all three northbound lanes for about five hours. Southbound traffic also was backed up because of closed lanes while investigators worked and crews repaired guardrails.

The northbound ramp from Route 82 to I-77 was shut down until almost 4 p.m.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and said no more information would be available until today.
