He was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the United States Army in 1968, and served his country in Vietnam as an armored cavalry commander. His decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts.
Before retirement, James was a financial controller for Ford Motor Corp. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palm City, Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carol A. Kosman of Port St. Lucie; daughters, Karen Kosman Cohen of Tequesta, Florida, and Arianne S. Kosman of Port St. Lucie, Florida; brother, Edward R. Kosman of Hinckley; and two grandchildren.
