Joseph Pollick, of West Salem, passed away at the age of 82 Monday, April 22, 2013. He was born April 9, 1931, in Beccaria Township, Pennslyvania, the son of the late Metro and Mary Pollick of Pennsylvania.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953, during the Korean Conflict, as a radarman on the USS Rupertus DD851. He retired from Ford Motor Co., Brook Park plant, in 1997, after 43 years as an electrician. He was a member of the IBEW, the American Legion Post 499, St. Stephen Catholic Church Senior Citizens and West Salem 50 Plus Club. Joe enjoyed his granddaughters, deer hunting, gardening and most of all, Bingo.
Surviving are his children, Joe (Pam) Pollick of Wooster, Marge (Tom) Gaffney of Akron, and Donna (Lou) Neville of Brunswick; granddaughters, Julianne Pollick, Angela Pollick, Cara Gaffney, Erin Gaffney and Gina Neville; brother, John Pollick of Clifton, New Jersey; and sisters, Christina Leclair of Gardner, Massachusetts, Sue (Bill) Kochan of Uniondale, Pennsylvania and Helen Chambers of Palmyra, Pennsylvania; as well as 31 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pollick was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sandy Pollick; infant daughter, Baby Girl Pollick; brothers, Wasco “Smokey” Pollick, Mike Pollick; and sisters, Anna Pollick, Katherine Cronin, Eva Herskovitz and Olean Shedlock.
Funeral Mass will be Monday April 29, 2013, 10:30 A.M., at St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem, with the Reverend James Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman. Friends will be received Sunday, April 28, 2013, from 2 until 5 P.M., at Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress St., West Salem.
