Dorothy P. Salay

Dorothy P. (Patsy) Salay, 82, of Mentor, (formerly of Westfield Township and Lehigh Acres, Florida), passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was born January 18, 1931 in Lodi, to William and Bessie (Baum) Hastings where she graduated from Lodi High School in 1949. She married John Salay on September 18, 1953.

She sold Dutch Maid Clothing for 25 years and also was a school bus driver for the Cloverleaf School System for 19 years. Dorothy was a former member of the Lehigh Acres Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliaries, the St. Raphael Catholic Church and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She crocheted hundreds of hats and booties for the newborns at Medina Hospital. She enjoyed many cruises with her husband over the years and took one final cruise with her daughters this past December.

Surviving are daughters, Patricia (Todd) Carruth of Mentor, Mary Jo (Mark) Ketner of Bowling Green, Kathy Salay (Boris Bencic) of Forest Hills, New York; grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Carruth of Mentor, Christy (D J) Bokor of Ashburn, Virginia, Matthew and Lisa Ketner of Hilliard, Jennifer Ketner of Columbus, Scott Ketner of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; nieces, Cindy Coudriet, Emily Salay, and Betty Jane Pletcher; nephews, Mike Salay, Joe and Steve Salay; cousin, Don Hastings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 2012; and sister, Marjorie Hirth.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 11 A.M., at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 8240 Buffham Rd., Lodi. Father Ron Bryda will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi. Visitation will be Monday, May 6, 2013, from 5 to 8 P.M., at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi.
