MEDINA — Leadership Medina County has selected Colleen Rice to serve as its new executive director.
Rice, who has 15 years of experience with nonprofits, has worked as the communications specialist for the Medina County Health District for the last eight years.
She will take over as executive director of the nonprofit leadership development organization on June 3. Rice, a 2008 graduate of Leadership Medina County, said she enjoyed the diversity of her class.
“Diversity is what makes leadership Medina County great,” she said.
Rice will take the job that Lucy Sondles has held for 15 years. Sondles is stepping down to take a part-time position with Leadership Medina County.
“I’m really just trying to build on the success that Lucy Sondles has already brought to our community,” Rice said.
Rice said she’s interested in working with social media and other ways to communicate with the community and alumni of the program.
“We’re looking at new ways to encourage conversations about educating our county’s future leaders,” she said.
Sondles said she thinks Rice will be a good fit for the nonprofit. As a part-time employee, Sondles said she will be available to help oversee the transition.
“I think Colleen is a perfect fit for this position,” Sondles said. “We need to keep Leadership Medina County moving forward and she’s got a young, fresh look toward the county.”
She also said she was impressed with Rice’s record of community service.
“Not only is she going to be talking about and encouraging community service, but she knows what it is and she’s done it,” Sondles said. “Our entire office is very excited to have her on board.”
