Clarence Dewey “Daggie” Cantrell, 66, of Strongsville, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, in Middleburgh Heights. He was born July 20, 1946 in Pikeville, Kentucky to Moses “Bob” Damron and Nettie Cantrell.
Daggie worked at Swagelok (formerly Hy-Level) as a machinist for over 30 years. He loved to golf and fish, was a natural around children, enjoyed listening to southern gospel music and going to gospel concerts, was a longtime faithful member of Canaan Freewill Baptist Church, and always said he would never quit his job!
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janie (nee Baldridge); loving daughters, Melissa (Jerry) Crockett and Melanie Salem (Jim Hoskins); dear grandchildren, Kinsey (Kevin) Schwamel, Lauren Crockett, Tiffany Salem and Joseph Salem; brothers, Jeff (Joan) Wright, Johnny (Robin) Wright, Danny (Jill) Damron, Dennis (Debbie) Damron; sisters, Carol (Junior) Good, Rita (David) Johnson, and Kim (Mark) Payne; and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eddie Damron; and his grandparents, who raised him, Ruben and Lizzie Cantrell.
Family will receive friends Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Waite and Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 P.M., and 10 A.M., at church on Tuesday. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013, 11 A.M., at the Canaan Freewill Baptist Church, 12723 Cleveland Rd, Creston, OH 44217, with Reverend Jim McComas officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Mound Cemetery in Creston.
