Joseph S. Detwiler

Joseph S. Detwiler, 90, died peacefully Friday, May 10, 2013 at Ohio Veteran’s Home. Joseph was born to Samuel and Stella Detwiler at Smithville, Ohio, on December 11, 1922.

He graduated from Doylestown High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 23, 1943. Joseph was a medical Technician and was involved in the campaigns of Normandy, N. France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Joseph lived on the family farm with his parents and worked with his brother, Richard, until he became a resident of the Medina County Home and then a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. Joseph was a lifelong member of the Seville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his siblings, Charles of Venice, Florida, Richard (Jean) of Seville, Esther Puglisi of Wadsworth, Norma Allen of Seville; sisters-in-law, Norma I. Detwiler and Evelyn Detwiler of Seville, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert, Earl, Ralph, James and Melvin; nephews, Tony, Sam, Bobby, Jimmy, Steve and Matt Detwiler, and a niece, Becky Martin.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Seville. Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Seville United Methodist Church, with Reverend Donald Trigg officiating. Burial will follow at Seville Mound Hill Cemetery with military honors.
