A 22-year-old Fairlawn man was arrested Wednesday and charged with a Mother’s Day carjacking in Wadsworth.
Antoine D. Petty was arrested by Akron police on a warrant issued by Wadsworth Municipal Court.
Petty is accused of stealing a 1998 Toyota Corolla that was being refueled at the Marathon service station, 143 Broad St., at about 7 p.m. Sunday.
A surveillance video showed a man jumped into the car as the driver, Suzi Snyder, 41, of Wadsworth, was closing the cover to the gas cap.
Snyder struggled with the man and sustained minor injuries when he threw her to the ground and drove off.
Wadsworth police credited the public in helping to identify the robbery suspect.
“The responses to our request for assistance delivered by the local media and our departmental social media sites resulted in numerous tips and information that led to this arrest,” Lt. Robert Wyrick said.
The blue Toyota Corolla, license plate number DPV6212, has not been recovered.
“We’d ask for the continuing assistance of the public to help us locate it,” Wyrick said. “The vehicle may be in the Akron area.”
Petty was arraigned Thursday in Wadsworth Municipal Court on a robbery charge, a second-degree felony. He is being held at the Medina County Jail in lieu of a $300,000,
10 percent, cash bond.
